Take Back Your Time announced Vacation Commitment Day at the Future of Work Forum in Nashville, Tennessee on March 17, 2015. The mission behind Vacation Commitment Day, which will be celebrated on March 31st, is to improve the quality and quantity of vacation time and to encourage employees to take the earned time off from work that they deserve. Co-Founder and President of Take Back Your Time, John de Graaf, was inspired to create a national Vacation Commitment Day to address the issues of overwork and time famine in the U.S. He has spent 35 years researching and dedicating his time to enlightening Americans on the topic.
Vacation Commitment Day, sponsored by Diamond Resorts International®, officially kicks off the Vacation Commitment Program, an initiative designed to foster a corporate environment that supports vacations through the involvement of Human Resources professionals across the country. The goal of the program is to help change how employers and employees perceive vacation time in an effort to improve workplace and family life balance. By providing HR professionals with the resources to promote and implement the program within their organizations, we hope to shift our country’s attitude toward vacation and the value it brings to peoples’ health and well-being.
